Tacos de Birria at Woolworths – An Extraordinary Birria Taco Experience

There are two Woolworths in Puerto Vallarta – one off of Francisco Villa near Cinepolis, and one located on Calle Juárez at the edge of the Zona Centro neighborhood, just two blocks from both Hotel Rosita and the northern end of the Malecon.

In front of the Woolworth on Calle Juárez is an incredible taco stand serving some of the best Birria Tacos you will find in Puerto Vallarta.

Madeline Milne, author of the Moon Guide to Puerto Vallarta recommended this spot to me when I interviewed her for the Travel Treasure Podcast.

One of my wife KC’s all-time favorite foods is tacos, so you can rest assured we made it a point to make our way over to this highly recommended birria taco stand to taste for ourselves.

Miguel Makes Birria Taco Magic Happen

We had a delightful experience at Tacos de Birria at Woolworths – I have been told that they have has been making tacos here for over 50 years!

The highlight of our visit here was meeting Miguel. His extensive experience and culinary wizardry is apparent the moment you take your first bite of a taco he has crafted.

The Birria Tacos here are perfectly cooked and the cup of consommé you get to dip your tacos in is divine. While you are there make sure to get whatever agua fresca Miguel is serving. While we were there we enjoyed a jamaica (hibiscus) agua fresca.

Birria Tacos – The Real Breakfast of Champions

The Tacos de Birria at Woolworths taco stand generally opens at 9 AM and they close when they sell out, which can happen by lunchtime. By the way – I have read in two different travel books and have been told by a number of people who are local, that here in Puerto Vallarta Birria Tacos are a breakfast or early lunch thing. Who knew?!

We made a point to visit Miguel right when he had opened to ensure that we did not miss out. Following our utterly delightful 9 AM birria tacos excursion we walked quite a ways down the Malecon, which is another wonderful Puerto Vallarta destination not to be missed!
